Microsoft Surface in a new video teaser

In a new teaser, Microsoft is touting its new, revolutionary GUI, Surface.

It looks cool, but how far away is Surface, realistically? This interface does not lend itself to everyday interaction. Who wants a computer in their coffee table? Well, the answer is “I do!” but is it really practical?

I’ve seen many demos for interfaces like this — some from MIT student project videos, and I definitely remember seeing other videos on YouTube showing interfaces like it. I’m guessing Microsoft won the bidding war and this is the end result.

If it were career day…

…and my Dad were a “professional LEGO sculptor,” that would be pretty cool.

I do not have an exact count, of course, but a conservative estimate would be that I have half a million (500,000) bricks in my working supply. I have probably used another 300,000 bricks in various projects and models (some of which have gone to clients, others are used in the prototypes about my place). The vast majority of my pieces are standard bricks and plates… probably only about 5% of my supply are ’specialty pieces’ of some type.

I clicked so

Time to upgrade my digital cam. I have an embarassing Fuji 3.2-megapixel cam right now (it was a gift from my very cool brother-in-law, so I can’t complain about the price). I’ve settled on a Canon SD500 ELPH series. See the detailed review at dpreview.com if you care.

I’m basing my decision on several reviews and a brief experience with a friend’s SD400. The sharpness of the pictures and the impressive speed of the SD400 made me take notice. I opted for the 500 because it offers 7.1-megapixels and 640×480 video. The body size is an incredible 3.5 x 2.2 x 1.1 in That’s barely bigger then a business card. It is pretty much the same size as my iriver.

It is en route from NewEgg as I write this. I will let you know how it performs for me. Who knows, maybe I’ll finally update my flickr account.
